The festival
Background
The Agora Music Festival is the first classical music festival in Luxembourg centered around the original creations of performers-composers, in equal parts with the traditional repertoire. During three days of concerts, the public will discover the contemporary form of the lost tradition of Liszt and Paganini, Sarasate and Rachmaninov - the composition and interpretation of the work being presented by the performer himself.
The composition will often be created for the festival itself. But the festival will extend to the traditional repertoire. For each new work, one classical piece will be played. This is the opportunity to present a new music at the time of its birth, interpreted by its creator, while enjoying every aspect of a traditional festival.
The combination and continuity of these two aspects of the musical world results in an innovative experience, at once unique and open to the general public.
We hope to create a lasting event in the center of musical Europe, a place of unions across time of several generations of performers: An agora, faithful to the past, open to the future.

Founders
Duo Constantin Riccardi and Nora Braun embarked on an exciting journey in 2019. Find out more about the founders' aspiration for the first edition of the AGORA music festival.
What motivated you to launch the a.s.b.l. and the festival?
From Vivaldi to Rachmaninov it has always been usual for a composer to perform his own works on stage. This tradition, however, began to fade in the early 20th century, separating performers and composers. Our desire to revive this tradition is therefore new compared to the current landscape of classical music, but rooted in a very old tradition.
What is unique about the AGORA music festival?
We want to establish a continuity between so-called classical music and new music written for the same instruments, and using the same essential techniques. Inspired by an emerging generation of composers, we focus on a choice of tonal music, based on instrumental practice.
Can you describe what the public can expect?
We have seen the spectacular potential of 'in vivo' musical creation, of the composer playing his music in front of the public, and this festival, created by musicians for musicians, aims to bring composers and audiences together in an open forum. We hope to create a double appointment, classical music and contemporary creation.

Locations
The Castle of Vianden and the Kulturzentrum “Beim Nëssert”, Bergem, will welcome this first edition of AGORA Music Festival in their unique infrastructures. We have chosen those two wonderful venues to represent the dual intention of the festival: to maintain a strong bond with tradition while remaining open to innovation and contemporary creations. We also strove to make the festival accessible to both the north and south of the country which will enable diverse audiences to attend.
