Sebastián Plata

Sebastián Plata was born in 1985 in Medellin (Colombia). Under mentorship from Professor Elizabeth Isaza at University of Antioquia, he got the title of Master of clarinet in 2008. In 2009, he moved to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg after being accepted in Olivier Dartevelle's class, at the Conservatoire de la Luxembourg capital. In 2011, he obtained his recital diploma from laureate and graduate with honors from the Luxembourg Conservatory. He later studied with Thorsten Johanns at the Conservatoire de Maastricht, (Netherlands) where he received the title of Master in Interpretation 2014.

Added to this, Sebastian has won numerous awards, including:
  • 2006, winner of the first national clarinet competition of 1 st cycle in Bogota (Colombia), with as President of the Jury the clarinetist Philippe Berrod, currently clarinet teacher at National Conservatory of Paris;
  • 2012, winner of the highest distinction "José Félix Restrepo" awarded by the University of Antioquia; this distinction is exceptional in that it salutes human qualities, and professional as well as the social impact of the receipt, while representing the spirit of independence, plural and diverse of the University; Sebastian is in this sense the first musician and only artist to have received this distinction in the more than 200 years of history of this University;
  • Also in 2012, Sebastian was the unanimous winner of the interregional competition in Montbéliard (France);
  • The same year, he also received an award from the President of the Republic from Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, and is now listed as one of the 100 most recognized Colombians in the world.​​

Another sign of recognition very dear to Sebastian: His clarinet master Olivier Dartevelle himself asked to perform for the world premiere of the creation "From a shore to another", composition for clarinet and orchestra, with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra; for this interpretation, Sebastian has received rave reviews from the Luxembourg press who recognize as "an internationally renowned clarinetist whose talent transcends borders to Colombia".
Sebastian also taught at the Conservatory of Ettelbrück (Luxembourg), University of Antioquia, Iberacademy and Medellin Music Schools Network in Colombia.

He has also been invited to give lectures at the University of Antioquia and EAFIT University in Colombia, as well as at the Wuhan Conservatory in China.

In June 2019 Sebastian recently performed as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia as well as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Medellin and Eafit in (Colombia).

​In the year 2017 and 2018 Currently, Sebastián, teaches in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in many institutes of international interest such as Saint-Georges, International School of Luxembourg, European School of Luxembourg and International School of Luxembourg. He also performs with the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra and with the clarinet quater "Clary Neth"
