Miguel Sobrinho
Miguel Sobrinho is praised by his “full sonority, tasteful musicality and virtuosity” in Público.
Miguel is studying at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), in Hélène Clément’s class- 4 th year Bachelor degree, where he was awarded a scholarship. At RAM, Miguel won the prestigious Theodore Holland Viola Prize in 2017, the Historical Women Composers Prize in partnership with the pianist Wouter Valvekens in 2019, and got ‘Very Highly Commended’ in the Mica Comberti Bach Prize in 2019. Miguel also won the 1st prize in several Portuguese national competitions such as Vasco Barbosa competition, both Junior and Superior levels.
As a soloist, Miguel played with Camerata Atlântica in 2015 and Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa (Portuguese Symphony Orchestra) in 2018. In 2016 he also had the opportunity to record Enescu’s Concertpiece live for the national Portuguese radio. In 2018 Miguel went to Iran to perform two chamber music concerts as a member of the Internava Project and in September 2019 he went to Scotland to play in the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival.
Engagements next season include a chamber music concert that will be recorded for BBC in Cadogan Hall with the Internava Project, a solo performance with the Orquestra Clássica do Sul (Classic Orchestra of the South), and with the City of London Soloists, chamber music concerts with the Werther Piano Quartet and with Carsaig Quartet. Miguel has also been inspired by masterclasses, such as Prussia Cove (2018 and 2019) and Aurora Music Festival (2018).
Miguel made its conducting debut with the City of London Soloists in December 2019.
